Steele Chapter Mentors Cadets in Capitol

November 17, 2025

AFAs D.W. Steele Sr. Chapter strengthened ties with tomorrow’s Air and Space Force officers during an engaging mentorship session at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 8. Chapter Secretary Bob Hill met with cadets from the Andrew D. Turner Squadron of the Arnold Air Society to discuss leadership, teamwork, and the professional value of belonging to AFA’s national network.

“We are proud of our partnership with the local Arnold Air squadrons,” said Hill. “It’s our opportunity to support their projects and activities while providing mentorship to these future leaders.”

“The Andrew D. Turner Squadron has maintained a long-standing and meaningful relationship with the AFA Steele Chapter,” said Cadet/Col. Kendall Johnson, Commander of the Turner Squadron. “One of the key reasons our relationship is so strong is because it begins early—during the candidacy process.”

The discussion also highlighted the enduring relationship between the Steele Chapter and both the Turner Squadron at Howard University and the Frank P. Lahm Squadron at the University of Maryland. Hill shared personal experiences from his own AFROTC and Arnold Air Society years, offering insight into how teamwork, mentorship, and networking helped shape his Air Force career.

The visit followed the chapter’s Oct. 29 Leadership and Salute to Arnold Air event, where former Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force JoAnne Bass inspired attendees with leadership lessons that resonate across ranks and services.

Looking ahead, the Steele Chapter will serve as a key sponsor for the 2025 Arnold Air Regional Conclave (RCON) and has invited cadets to join the chapter’s upcoming “One Team Air Force & Space Force Birthday Celebration” on Nov. 19. Additional events, including AFA’s April tribute to the Doolittle Raiders, are already in the works, continuing the chapter’s mission to inspire and develop the next generation of Airmen and Guardians.
