Cadets and senior program members of the Nebraska Wing of the Civil Air Patrol’s 12 squadrons held their Annual Wing Conference at the Beardmore Event Center in Bellevue, Neb., on March 7. Their day of air and space education included training on flight simulator stations, safety briefings, and presentations by senior program members as well as members of the aviation community.
AFA was well represented by CAP Col. Thomas Theis, a member of AFA’s General E. W. Rawling Chapter in Minnesota, in his capacity as Commander of CAP’s North Central Region.
A busy day of training and education concluded with the Nebraska Wing’s Annual Awards Banquet. AFA Nebraska State President Chris Canada presented AFA Medals to the outstanding cadets from four CAP Squadrons. He addressed the gathering and spoke about AFA and the partnership between AFA and CAP in air and space education.
Long-time AFA State Vice President for Aerospace Education, Diane Bartels, presented the Evelyn Sharp Award. Bartels is a retired educator, private pilot, aerospace education lecturer, and author of Evelyn Sharp’s biography: Sharpie: The Life Story of Evelyn Sharp – Nebraska’s Aviatrix.
