AFA Supports Families of Hospitalized Vets in Charleston

AFA’s Charleston Chapter, in collaboration with Warriors Haven and RJ’s Mission Foundation, sponsored two dinners for resident veterans and families of the Charleston Fisher House in South Carolina Lowcountry.

The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center Fisher House serves as a “home away from home” for families of veterans receiving medical care, providing temporary lodging at no cost while their loved ones are hospitalized. The Charleston location offers 16 guest rooms and shared living spaces where families can remain close to their loved ones during times of medical need.

Recognizing the important role the Fisher House plays in caring for veteran families, AFA Charleston, Warriors Haven, and RJ’s Mission Foundation coordinated efforts to sponsor dinners for the families staying there. By providing meals, the organizations helped ease one of the everyday burdens families may face while focusing their time and attention on supporting a loved one receiving care.

The dinner sponsorships grew out of community partnerships and a shared commitment to those who have served. While Fisher House provides families with lodging at no cost, volunteer groups and community organizations supply the meals and everyday support that make a stay there feel less like a hospital visit.

Through continued collaboration with local organizations, AFA Charleston remains committed to supporting veterans and their families beyond their time in uniform and ensuring the military community knows it has the support of the Lowcountry.
