AFA Supports Standup of Colorado Springs AFROTC Detachment

AFA’s Lance P. Sijan Chapter donated $3,500 toward the standup of AFROTC Detachment 105A at the University of Colorado—Colorado Springs (UCCS). The donation covered the cost of the flags shown for the detachment, to be used for display and ceremonies.

Detachment 105A is an operating location of Detachment 105 at the University of Colorado—Boulder. Its standup eliminates the requirement for a three-hour drive weekly from Colorado Springs to Boulder for the UCCS cadets. Although classes at UCCS do not begin until the third week of August, Det 105A already has 95-100 students registered for the ROTC program.

The Sijan Chapter learned of the Detachment 105A standup in November 2025 from the commander of AFROTC Detachment 105 at the University of Colorado—Boulder. Colorado AFA has a long history of involvement with AFROTC in the state. Chapter President Col. David C. Geuting, USAF (Ret.), opened a discussion with the university’s Office of Advancement about what the detachment would need through its standup and first year of operation. Both the university and the Sijan Chapter realized the detachment still needed flags, and the chapter’s executive committee approved the gift.

The donation went to the UCCS Air Force ROTC Support Fund. In a letter to the chapter, UCCS Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet wrote that the flags “will be used by our cadets as they represent UCCS Air Force ROTC at ceremonies, campus events, and other important occasions,” and that the gift “helps strengthen the bonds and shared sense of purpose that are such an important part of the cadet experience.”

The chapter will attend the ribbon cutting for the new operating location, set for August 27 at the Osborne Center for Science and Engineering on the UCCS campus.

“This support continues AFA’s long-standing support to AFROTC at colleges across the United States,” Geuting said.
