AFA Grant Supports New Military Families in Nebraska

The Air & Space Forces Association Lincoln Chapter and the Nebraska Air National Guard Family Support Office, with the generous support of an AFA United Forces & Families grant, jointly sponsored a baby shower for recent and expecting parents of the Nebraska National Guard. The baby shower—held on August 22 in Bellevue, Neb.—directly supported Nebraska Air National Guard members who support critical missions and operations at Offutt Air Force Base.

The afternoon provided an enjoyable social environment for the soon-to-be parents, featuring refreshments and the gifting of essential care supplies for newborns. AFA and the Family Support Office also offered educational and wellness resources for the periods before, during, and after pregnancy, including Postpartum Fitness, TRICARE and DEERS information, financial planning, and access to new parent programs.

Recognizing and supporting new and future families is key to retaining members in military units, including the Nebraska Air National Guard, and to ensuring every family member feels part of the service community. Supporting military families—especially during major life milestones like childbirth—reinforces the vital role families play in mission success.

On behalf of Offutt’s expecting families, the Nebraska Air National Guard and the AFA Lincoln Chapter thank AFA’s United Forces & Families Program and the grant that helped make the event possible and so memorable for the parents. Events like these serve as a reminder that to retain a service member, the family must be retained first.
