AFA Plans, Funds CAP ‘Fly-In’ Event in Texas

May 18, 2024, was a great day in Greenville, Texas. Thanks to the Civil Air Patrol, TX-645; Majors Composite Squadron; the Majors Flying Club; the City of Greenville; and the Municipal Airport team, a great ‘fly-in’ event was held. The Northeast Texas AFA Chapter 416 contributed to the planning, funding, and advertising of the event.

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) was present with vintage aircraft. One highlight of the event was four local area teachers who got to fly in aircraft provided by the CAP, TX-645, team. The TX-645 team was joined by TX-450, Sulphur Springs, and both teams shared CAP stories, techniques, and missions with the attendees. This teamwork on a major event demonstrates how our CAP units, the Air Force Auxiliary, would also work together in a disaster or as called to by the nation.

“It is great to get such strong support from our community,” said Majors Flying Club President Dennis Mathis, a long-time AFA member.

“Thanks to all who make this happen, and a special thanks to the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA), Northeast Texas, Chapter 416 for supporting the event,” said Greenville Mayor, Dr. Jerry Ransom.
