AFA Propels Milwaukee, CAP Students with Top-Tier CyberCamps

January 27, 2025

AFA’s Billy Mitchell Chapter in Milwaukee, Wis., is hosting its third AFA CyberCamp, June 23 through 27. Registration opens March 1.

The Chapter’s 2024 camp was a resounding success for 72 students from four locations in 2024, supported through a partnership with AFROTC Detachment 930 at Marquette University.

The Chapter’s relationship with Marquette University started when Billy Mitchell Chapter Vice President Lt. Col. Carl Lewis, USAF (Ret.) served as the AFROTC Detachment Commander. Lewis started by allowing a fifth-year senior cadet to Coach a CyberPatriot Team for local low-income, first-generation, and other disadvantaged high school students. The pairing gave students an opportunity to compete and gain cybersecurity skills with AFA’s resources, while giving the cadet a professional development training opportunity.

The CyberCamp continued to grow year over year, with new students from Wisconsin and students in the Civil Air Patrol in Minneapolis joining. In 2023, Headquarters AFROTC sent five rising senior cadets as interns to provide the primary instruction for the camp. Distinguished experts and cyber professionals have visited the camp as speakers, including representatives from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and U.S. Cyber Command.
