AFA Wright Memorial Chapter Supports Rafi’s Amigos JROTC Air Camp

The Wright Memorial Chapter 212 of the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA) has helped the ninth annual Rafi’s Amigos Golf Outing reach a new milestone, netting $25,480 to provide an exclusive Air Camp experience for up to 40 Miami Valley JROTC cadets and their instructors.

Hosted by Col. Rafi Rodriguez, USAF (Retired), the annual outing is a passion project dedicated to introducing young leaders to aviation, aerospace, and leadership through a one-day session at Air Camp. The session funded through Rafi’s Amigos is reserved exclusively for JROTC cadets from across the Miami Valley, creating a unique opportunity for students who have already demonstrated a commitment to leadership and service.

In addition to hands-on aviation and STEM activities, each participating cadet takes to the skies alongside a certified flight instructor, experiencing the thrill and educational value of flight firsthand. The program is designed to inspire confidence, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and an interest in aviation, military service, engineering, and other high-demand careers.

This year’s fundraising total will allow as many as 40 cadets, along with their instructors, to participate in the specialized program. Rodriguez said the success of the outing is a direct reflection of the generosity of sponsors, volunteers, golfers, and community partners who believe in investing in the next generation. He offered special appreciation to the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA), whose continued support has helped strengthen the program and expand opportunities for local students.

“The Wright Memorial Chapter 212 of the Air & Space Forces Association has been an incredible partner in helping us open doors for these cadets, and I am deeply grateful for their steadfast encouragement and commitment to our mission,” Rodriguez said. “Their support reminds these students that experienced leaders believe in their potential and are willing to invest in their future. Together, we’re giving these young men and women an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.”

Air Camp, based in Dayton, Ohio, provides immersive educational programming centered on aviation, aerospace, leadership, and innovation. Its mission is to inspire students through hands-on experiences that connect classroom learning with real-world opportunities while encouraging careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and aviation.

Rodriguez said one of the most rewarding aspects of the outing is watching cadets discover new possibilities during their day at Air Camp, particularly when they experience flight for the first time.

He also thanked the many businesses, civic organizations, and individual supporters whose contributions continue to make the outing possible year after year. From tournament sponsors and prize donors to volunteers and golfers, he said every participant plays a role in creating meaningful opportunities for local students.

Rafi’s Amigos Golf Outing continues to grow in both participation and impact, reflecting a community-wide commitment to developing future leaders.

Organizers noted that the continued partnership with the Wright Memorial AFA Chapter 212 and the generosity of local supporters will ensure that dozens more JROTC cadets have the opportunity to experience aviation, leadership, and personal growth through Air Camp for years to come.
