Mike Maxwell

Robert M. “Mike” Maxwell is a retired member of the Senior Executive Service (SES) and a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel. He concluded his federal career in 2021 as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Resource Management for the U.S. Army Reserve at the Pentagon, where he oversaw an $8 billion budget supporting 200,000 Soldiers, more than 11,000 civilians, and approximately 850 facilities. Prior to that, Maxwell served as Director of Resources (J8) for U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany, and as Deputy Director of Strategic Planning at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, where he helped develop and implement Air Force strategies, policies, and objectives.
Before returning to government service, Maxwell held executive leadership roles at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), where he served as Corporate Vice President and Division Manager of the Defense Business Solutions Division. In this role, he led a $50 million consulting practice supporting a wide range of Department of Defense clients.
Maxwell served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Colonel after a career spanning senior-level planning, programming, and operational assignments. His roles included Chief of the Support Division in the Directorate of Programs, Special Assistant for the Quadrennial Defense Review, Director of Programs and Resources for U.S. Southern Command, and squadron command as an Air Battle Manager.
Following his military and federal service, Maxwell has remained active in the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA) and currently serves as the Virginia State President. His involvement with AFA has included leadership roles at the chapter level, including service as Vice President for Aerospace Education and Chapter President.
Maxwell earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and a Master of Business Administration in Accounting from Mississippi State University. He is also a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and Air War College.
