Drone Technology Educator Honored Across Virginia AFA
November 6, 2025
The D.W. Steele Sr. Chapter and the Virginia State AFA recognized one of the Commonwealth’s most accomplished educators, Anthony Frazier, an Aviation Technology and Drones Technology Instructor at the Arlington Career Center. Frazier was honored as both the Steele Chapter and Virginia State AFA Teacher of the Year for 2025.
A retired Air Force Master Sergeant, Frazier brings real-world experience into the classroom. His Aviation Technology and Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) program is one of only four public high school aviation programs in Virginia. The course is so popular that it currently has a two-year waiting list. Students learn aerodynamics, flight operations, and drone technology, with many earning FAA Private Pilot and Part 107 certifications. More than 30 of his graduates now serve as military or commercial pilots worldwide.
On October 17, AFA leaders, educators, and students gathered at the Arlington Career Center for a ceremony co-hosted by the Steele Chapter and Virginia AFA. The event opened with a presentation of the colors by the Space Force Junior ROTC and remarks by local leaders, including Principal Margaret Chung and Arlington School Board Chair Bethany Zecher Sutton.
“This honor reflects what’s possible when educators, mentors, and students all share one mission: Helping the next generation take flight,” Frazier said. “I’m proud to represent AFA and the incredible work happening in our aviation community.”
In recognition of his achievements, Frazier received the Steele Chapter Teacher of the Year Trophy, certificates from both the Chapter and State AFA, a personalized State Teacher of the Year windbreaker jacket, and a combined award of $1,250.
“Tony represents the best of our Air Force heritage and the promise of our nation’s future,” said Padilla. “His students aren’t just learning about aviation—they’re living it.”
“Tony exemplifies the spirit of innovation and service that defines both STEM education and the Air and Space Forces,” said Mike Maxwell, Virginia State President.
As the Virginia State Teacher of the Year, Frazier will be nominated for the AFA’s Thompson-Mallett National Teacher of the Year Award in 2026, honoring educators who inspire the next generation of aerospace professionals.
