Recruiters Learn How AFA AIMS Can Support Their Mission

The collaborative efforts between AFA and the Air Force Recruiting Service were spotlighted during the 317th Recruiting Squadron’s semi-annual training session held June 26, in Perryville, Md. The partnership, known as Advocates Inspiring Military Service (AIMS), was a focal point of the event.
Bob Hill, a member of the D.W. Steele Chapter and guest speaker at the meeting, addressed the squadron’s 85 recruiters. Hill detailed the steps taken by the chapter to serve as a recruiting force multiplier.
Key initiatives include providing timely updates to the squadron’s marketing department regarding upcoming STEM events at local high schools, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) units, and Civil Air Patrol (CAP) squadrons. These updates enable recruiters to engage with potential candidates effectively.
Earlier this year, Lt. Col. Adrian Zollinger, Commander of the 317th Recruiting Squadron, briefed the Steele Chapter Executive Committee (EXCOM) on the unit’s specific recruitment challenges, subsequently becoming a member of the EXCOM. Recruiters were also briefed on potential collaboration opportunities with StellarXplorers and CyberPatriot teams based in Virginia.
Recruiters expressed keen interest in joining their local AFA chapters to build connections with fellow members and support ongoing initiatives.
The recruiters exchanged ideas with Hill, highlighting the importance of AFA members helping to “open doors” by facilitating introductions to school administrators, JROTC instructors, and CAP leaders. The recruiters also agreed that one of the best ways to help them achieve their mission is for AFA members to “tell their story”, sharing why they decided to join the Air Force.
According to Zollinger, AFA members can have a major impact on recruiting success.
“Amid the challenges confronting military recruiting today, the most significant contribution a current or former Airman can make is to share their journey and inspire others,” he said.
Hill emphasized the pivotal role of AFA members in the success of AIMS, stating, “Recruiters play a crucial role in representing the Air Force and Space Force to the public. AFA members need to do our part, get involved, and help make AIMS a success.”
