Second Annual Spark Tank Competition to Take Place at AFA’s 2019 Air Warfare Symposium

ARLINGTON, Va. — The second annual Spark Tank Competition will take place at the Air Force Association’s 2019 Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, February 28, 2019.

After a successful inaugural year, the Spark Tank Competition returns to AFA’s Air Warfare Symposium for its second annual competition. Designed to unleash the innovative capacity of Airmen, the final round of competition showcases six teams pitching cutting-edge innovations, inventions, and transformative technologies to a panel of senior Air Force leaders and prominent innovators.

The six finalist teams will present their ideas, spanning testing, equipment, and tactical improvements, to senior Air Force leadership and thought leaders in innovation. These proposals are designed to reduce injury, improve the well-being of Airmen, and save the Air Force millions of dollars.

AFA is proud to welcome a distinguished panel of Spark Tank judges including the Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson, Air Force Chief of Staff General David L. Goldfein, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright.

This year’s guest judges include Mark Cuban, the renowned entrepreneur, investor, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, and current judge on the popular CNBC television program Shark Tank, and George Steinbrenner IV, owner of the Harding Steinbrenner Racing IndyCar Series team. Steinbrenner, the grandson and namesake of the legendary New York Yankees owner, joined the NTT IndyCar Series as the youngest team owner in history. Following two successful years competing within the developmental Indy Lights Series, Steinbrenner joined as a partner of Harding Steinbrenner Racing. Both judges welcome the opportunity to witness and evaluate the creative and innovative ideas of Airmen during the 2019 Spark Tank Finals.
