Space Force, Air Force Leaders speak at New Jersey State Conference

The AFA New Jersey Chapter held its annual Convention at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., on August 6.
Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force John Bentivegna addressed the attendees via Zoom, offering remarks on the evolving role of space in national security and the future of space operations. Bentivegna shared insights on how space capabilities are integral to modern defense strategies and the importance of continued innovation in this critical domain.
During the convention, State President Joe Abegg, who presided along with officers from all of the active chapters attending, presented Dr. Michael Gottfried, the AFA 2024 New Jersey Teacher of the Year, a handmade seal of the Space Force in recognition of his contributions to STEM and Aviation Career fields.
Col. Anthony Smith, Commander of the 87th Air Base Wing at JB MDL and his Command Chief Chief Master Sgt. Michael “Big Mike” Wynne tag teamed an inspiring presentation on the importance of collaboration between military, civilian, and industry partners in advancing aerospace and defense capabilities. They emphasized the critical role that innovation and community engagement play in maintaining national security and advancing technological progress.
During the business meeting of the convention the officer delegates elected Bill Fosina to be the next New Jersey State President replacing Joe Abegg on October 1. Fosina brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role. The AFA community looks forward to Fosina ‘s leadership in fostering stronger connections among aerospace professionals and individuals who support the Air & Space Force missions.
Civil Air Patrol cadets from the McGuire Composite Squadron provided the Color Guard for the event.
