Strengthening Transatlantic Cooperation: AFA Deepens Partnership with German Counterpart
June 11, 2026
Air & Space Forces Association President & CEO Lt. Gen. Burt Field, USAF (Ret.) traveled to Germany June 9-12, strengthening the transatlantic partnership with the Interessengemeinschaft Deutsche Luftwaffe (IDLw)—known in English as the German Air Force Association.
While in Germany, Field attended the ILA Berlin Air Show 2026 as an honored guest of the IDLw, speaking of the significance of the partnership and the event itself.
“It is an honor to be invited by Lt. Gen. Klaus Habersetzer (IDLw President), and I was very pleased to accept this invitation,” Field said. “The partnership with the IDLw is very important, just as the relationship between the United States and Germany is important. It is impressive to see how industry, the military, and aerospace partners are represented here at the ILA.”
Field’s remarks highlight the role ILA Berlin plays as an international platform for innovation, exchange, and security cooperation.
For the IDLw, ILA Berlin has long served as a key venue to advance the organization’s mission and broaden its reach.
“The ILA is an excellent opportunity to present the goals of the IDLw and, above all, to showcase our commitment to developing young talent,” Habersetzer said. “A highlight of this year’s ILA is the visit of Lt. Gen. Burt Field, USAF (Ret.).”
Inspiring the next generation of aviation and aerospace professionals is a core mission shared by both AFA and the IDLw—and a defining element of their growing partnership.
Field’s visit to ILA Berlin Air Show 2026 marks a significant milestone in the IDLw-AFA collaboration. Both organizations remain committed to cultivating emerging talent, expanding international networks, and strengthening ties among industry, the military, and the scientific community.
The partnership stands as a testament to the enduring bond between Germany and the United States in aerospace and defense—one that both organizations are committed to building on in the years ahead.
