November 25, 2025 | By Cheryl Moye
AFA’s Swamp Fox Chapter proudly participated in the Sumter County Veterans Day Parade for the third year in a row, continuing its commitment to honoring local service members and strengthening ties with the community.
Marching alongside the chapter on the chilly morning were High Hills Elementary School scholar Kameron Johnson; Medal of Merit recipient and Vice President of Education Tech. Sgt. Greggria Sylvester of Shaw Air Force Base; Col. Bill Oden, USAF, (Ret.), Chair of Hidden Wounds; and Cheryl R. Moye, the Swamp Fox Chapter’s Vice President of Communications and a two-time recipient of AFA’s Exceptional Service Award.
The chapter also maintains an active role in the Sumter County Veterans Association. Swamp Fox Chapter President Col. David “Bush” Hanson, USAF (Ret.) served as emcee for the annual Veterans Day ceremony, which honored about 20 Total Force veterans. This year’s program featured a notable guest: Maj. Gen. Todd B. McCaffrey, USAF (Ret.), Secretary of the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs, who delivered the keynote address.
The parade drew hundreds of enthusiastic spectators who lined the streets in support of local veterans. Members of the Swamp Fox Chapter handed out American flags, flag roses, lapel pins, candy and patriotic bracelets as the announcer recognized the group from the Team Sumter–Shaw distinguished visitor tent.
The Swamp Fox Chapter’s participation reflects its ongoing dedication to celebrating military service and building unity in the Team Sumter–Shaw community.
