September 14, 2023
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., Sept. 13, 2023 — Gen. Glen VanHerck, Commander of U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), was awarded AFA’s “H. H. Arnold Award” for achieving the most outstanding contribution to national defense by a military member. The annual award, named for Air Force legend Gen. Henry “Hap” Arnold, was presented by AFA Chair Bernie Skoch at the 2023 Air, Space & Cyber Conference.
For more than three years, Gen. Glen VanHerck has helmed units responsible for the defense of North America. As commander, he was a strong advocate for greater over-the-horizon surveillance capabilities to maintain domain awareness and protect the homeland. His 37-year career has encompassed command positions at nearly every level, and he’s served as the Director of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. VanHerck also served as the chief of the B-2 program at Headquarters Air Combat Command, bringing stealth technology and capability to America’s warfighters. He has flown more than 3,200 flight hours (cumulative) in 10 different aircraft, including the F-15C Eagle, F-35A Lighting II, B-2A Spirit, and B-1B Lancer.
Congratulations, Gen. VanHerck!
