AFA in Action

A Message from the President

May 1, 2026

Friends,

Join us as AFA celebrates National Space Day May 1. Our focus will be on Gen. Bernard “Bennie” Schriever and his pioneering work to open the heavens for military—and civilian—use. This is our inaugural Salute to Space, celebrated each year on the first Friday in May, a new tradition designed to highlight our U.S. space superiority and the contributions of the Space Force and our Guardians.

In future years, we will celebrate the many great moments and accomplishments of Guardians and Airmen whose innovation and vision turned space into America’s strategic high ground, enabling our joint force warfighters in the air, at sea, and on the ground.

Join us in person or via the livestream at 3 p.m. EDT on May 1 to celebrate our Space Force. And start thinking now about how your local Chapter can capitalize on National Space Day in the future to increase awareness of our Space Force and the crucial contributions of our Guardians to ensure our national security.

Just two weeks ago we celebrated our annual Doolittle Raiders Memorial Toast and its inspiring story of American airpower. National Space Day will be a similar heritage event and one every AFA Chapter should build upon.

Semper Supra!

Lt. Gen. Burt Field, USAF (Ret.)
President & CEO
