Mission Membership | Field FAQ

In March 2026, AFA introduced Mission Membership, our new free membership tier. The new Mission Membership model ensures that everyone who believes in AFA’s mission can belong, while offering clear pathways to deeper engagement, leadership, and impact.

Mission Membership provides baseline access to connection, information, and advocacy ensuring every supporter of the Air Force and Space Force has a seat at the table. All of this will bring AFA closer to our goal of 1 million members.

How does this affect your Chapter?

Will Mission Membership growth affect how chapters are categorized or recognized for awards?

No immediate changes. This topic is intentionally flagged for post-launch review and will be brought forward in a future Field Council meeting discussion.

Will Mission Membership growth change how chapter and state support payments are calculated or distributed?

No. There are no changes to chapter or state support payment calculations for FY26. Maintain the current support payment calculus for FY26. Reassessment will occur only if growth materially exceeds budgeted expectations, and any future changes would be communicated well in advance by the Field Council.

How will AFA ensure new Mission Members are connected to an active, responsive chapter and not routed to an inactive one?

The Field Council will help confirm which chapters are active and ready to engage new members, while AFA puts interim routing in place to ensure every new member is connected to a responsive point of contact.

What recruiting resources are available to Field Leaders?

AFA National has created a comprehensive toolkit to help you and your Chapter, State, or Region recruit and contact Mission Members. Brochures and business cards are available in the Field Resources center, and in-depth tutorials are now available in the Training Modules hub.

What’s changing for members?

Who qualifies for a Mission Membership?

Mission Membership is open to anyone who believes in the mission, ensuring broad access and belonging, while providing clear pathways to deeper engagement, leadership opportunities, and greater impact within AFA.

If someone currently has a paid membership, can they choose the Mission Membership when their existing membership expires?

Yes. When a paid membership expires, individuals may transition to Mission Membership; however, access to full AFA benefits is limited, with expanded benefits available through paid membership tiers.

When does a Mission Membership expire?

Mission Membership does not expire; it remains active until a member chooses to upgrade to a paid membership tier.
